Sen. Frank Ibezim moves to address flooding in Imo North

The senator, representing Imo North in the National Assembly, Sir. Frank Ibezim, has resolved to mobilise help towards tackling environmental degradation in his constituency.

Towards this end, Sen. Ibezim, on Thursday, visited the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ahmed Mustapha Habib, to solicit for relief for the victims of the recent flood that caused havoc to most businesses in Imo North, also known as Okigwe Zone, with particular reference to Amauzari in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.

The senator, who visited the NEMA DG in the company of Hon. Okey Williams and is also seeking a permanent measure to ensure non-recurrence of such an environmental hazard in the affected areas.

The visit was a follow up to a recent letter written to the Agency intimating them of the ugly incidence.

Responding, the DG commiserated with the communities affected and assured that the request would be honored in two tranches.

Firstly, immediate assessment of the damages would be carried out and reliefs extended to the victims so affected within the limits of the expected approvals from the Presidency.

This shall be followed by a permanent measure to forestall future flooding, which shall be accommodated in the forthcoming budget year, as this year’s capital budget is almost exhausted.

Sen. Ibezim, since his inauguration about four months ago has been unrelenting in addressing some of the problems bedeviling Imo North.

One of his most recent activities was the reactivation of the power sub-station in Okigwe, which was abandoned for close to 20 years since its construction was approved.
