“We are the ESANY scholarship beneficiaries. We have retorted as stewardship to give back to the society the little we can at the moment pending when we grow higher, of course we shall domesticate same by also offering scholarship to Indigent students like us” These were the words of the 26 Ebonyi State Indigent students studying in various Universities across the Nation who are beneficiaries of a non-governmental organisation known and called ‘Ebonyi State Association of New York (ESANY)’ in appreciation of the magnanimous gesture, organized seminar on “career choice and dangers of social vices” for selected schools in Ebonyi State.
The Coordinator SUCCDEV/ESANY scholarship Program, Mr. Ibiam Aja Anuma explained that the association selected them using Nation tool, vulnerability index form through the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki Succour and Development Services Initiative (SUCCDEV) from year one (1) to final year despite duration of courses.
Mr. Ibiam said that the scholarship Beneficiaries decided to schedule program that will give them the opportunity to impact knowledge to senior students in Ebonyi state secondary schools, noting that they have visited Abakaliki High School and St. Teresa’s Secondary School Abakaliki.
Mr. Ibiam before the students, introduced seven (7) keys that may influence students in making career choice such as parental pressure/influence, peer group influence, affordability, potential, past performance, placement, personality driven. He said, if these facts that can influence students in making career choice could be overcome, one would make a nice career choice.
The second resource persons in the seminar Mr. Theophilus Irem Ahanna said that the program was designed to educate young students on the possible things they will do to better their future.
“We organize this programm as a stewardship to the benevolent we got from philanthropists and Ebonyians that are resident in New York, who selected us from year one as Indigent Ebonyi students studying in different Universities across Nigeria. So in order to give back to the society, we concluded that in our own little way we can organize seminar for young students to avoid social vices that can destroy their future and factors they need to consider in making their career choices.
“The ESANY scholarship beneficiaries initiated and sponsored the seminar. We shall domesticate the kindness charity and love ESANY has demonstrated to us”.
“I humbly appeal ESANY to keep the ball rolling, now that we are completing our studies with your unalloyed assistance, our future have been secured, there is need to extend the program to other Indigent students, God will never live them unrewarded”.

Rev. Sr. Cecilia Chukwu appreciated the thought of the Indigent students who have put together the little resources they have to enable them hold seminar in both public and private schools in Ebonyi State in appreciation of what Ebonyians in New York has done for them.
Sr. Chukwu Implored the secondary school students to put in practice what they have learnt so that their future will not be ruined..\
Sr. Chukwu encouraged ESANY to extend the scholarship program to other set of Indigent students as many of them came to her for financial assistance. Sr. Chukwu said she was extremely happy when she listen to the scholarship beneficiaries speak to Secondary school students on career choice and what could hamper their career if they get involved.
In his remark at the seminar, one of the students teachers said he was overwhelmed with what the ESANY scholarship beneficiaries were able to organize to express abundant joy in their heart for the scholarship they received from ESANY. He urged his students to learn from the experiences illustrated to them and then abstain from any fellowship that might lure them into cultism.
In a vote of thanks, the Senior Prefect of the School Master Michael and the Sanitary Prefect Miss. Ugwu Ann expressed indept joy for the rare privilege given them to interact with University Students from different schools and disciplines, stating that the seminar was interesting, educative and impactful.
The students said that what they learnt will go a long way to guiding them in choosing their rightful careers without parental interference or peer group, seeking for revisit to extend the seminar.
