The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) donated food items to 840,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the North East.
The KSrelief Representative, Mr Nasser Al-Subeie, disclosed this during the food distribution exercise at the Bakassi IDPs camp in Maiduguri on Tuesday.
Al-Subeie said that the 840,000 IDPs would receive a total of 70,000 baskets of food items.
He added that “each household would get 59.8 kg of food items consisting of 25-kg bag of rice, 25-kg of white beans, 4-kg vegetable oil, 4-kg masa products, 2-kg tomato paste and 1-kg salt.”

He explained that the gesture came through generous donations by the custodians of the two Mosques of Mecca and Medina, saying it would go a long way to alleviate the sufferings of persons displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency.
He added that “this assistance is a testimony of the humanitarian commitment and the noble value on which the KSrelief was founded and its
leading role in alleviating the sufferings of persons affected by conflict.
“We, therefore, appreciate the excellent cooperation of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ministry of Defence and the
Borno Government.”
Hajiya Yabawa Kolo, the Chairperson, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) commended the foundation for the gesture, noting that it would go a long way to alleviate the distress of the IDPs.
Kolo reiterated the state government’s commitment toward the welfare of IDPs in the state.
She said “let me place it on record that the administration of Gov. Kashim Shettima in Borno has showcased remarkable dedication and commitment to the welfare of IDPs.” (NAN)
