New members of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, have been charged to be fair and uphold integrity ahead of this year’s local government election.
The new members were sworn-in on Friday by the governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Banquet Hall, Lagos House, Ikeja.
The members are Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (rtd) as chairman, Ajibade Samson Olusegun, Oluwo Akeem Durojaiye, Olumide Olusola, Ayederu Habib, and Adekanye Oladele.
The governor charged them to bring their professional knowledge, expertise, and wealth of experience to bear on the commission by upholding the integrity and credibility of the electoral process in the state
He reminded them that their appointment was based on a track record of integrity, expertise, and unwavering commitment to the principles of democracy and good governance. He urged them to ‘prioritize transparency, fairness, and impartiality.
“The credibility of any electoral process is the cornerstone of its acceptance. Your actions must reflect the highest standards of integrity and accountability. To this end, I encourage you to leverage technology to enhance efficiency and reliability, ” the governor said.
He also charged them to work with all stakeholders including opposition parties and civil society organizations for effective voter education campaigns.
The governor also sworn-in new three permanent secretaries namely Fashola Abdul-Rafiu Omowale, Sarumi Olayemi Kafayat and Muri-Okunola Abdulrasheed Abiola.
Sanwo-Olu told the new permanent secretaries they are the engine room of the public service and charged them to uphold the highest standard of professionalism.
“Your conduct must reflect values of integrity and accountability and ensure effective implementation of government policies,” he said.
