By Ayodele Olalere Newly-sworn-in Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday, began his official duties with a visit to the Ministry of Environment, Alausa , promising the staff improved welfare package.
The governor was welcomed by a combined staff of physical planning, lands bureau and environment departments.
In his address, Governor Sanwo-Olu told the staff to ‘turn a leaf’ and take their job serious, promising his administration will treat the staff better.
Said he, “We decided to come here first because we realised you control the critical aspects of the area the people wants us to touch and do better.
“We would begin to tell Lagosians that things would begin to happen. Yes there are issues but we cannot fail the people. I know you don’t have materials to work with.
“I know there are no tables and chairs. Whatever we were not doing well, we should turn a new leaf. When we take care of you, we will take care of Lagosians. Let us think out of the box,” he said.
The governor, however, kept mum on the implementation of the minimum wage, adding his administration would look Into it.
“We will look into the issue of minimum wage . Your take-home will begin to take you home. However we let’s think how to bake a bigger cake,” he said.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also went around other ministries, acknowledging cheers from staff.
The governor also promised to purchase 30 new staff buses.
