Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, charged workers at the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) to ensure cases of buildings collapsing in Lagos are reduced.
The governor spoke at the opening of the new LASBCA office at GRA, Ikeja.
According to him, the opening of the office was a testimony of the importance the government placed on abiding by building standards in the state.

He further said the government is committed to regulating construction activities, ensuring compliance with building standards, and promoting safety in Lagos in line with the THEMES + agenda for a greater Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu said LASBCA will be at the forefront of collaborating with stakeholders, developers, and citizens to create a built environment that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also safe and sustainable.
As the General Manager rightly said in his welcome address, to whom much is given, much is expected, I urge all the staff of the agency to rededicate and recommit yourselves to achieving the mandates of this agency.
The governor warned building contractors not to cut corners in the discharge of their duties ‘because trying to cut corners has been majorly identified as the cause of building collapse in our society today. It is not just in Nigeria that we have seen or heard of building collapsing but all over the world.’
Sanwo-Olu said the task of reducing the menace of building collapse should not be left to the government, and urged Lagosians to always report distressed buildings with assurance ‘confidentiality of your report is guaranteed and safe.’
