The Rotary Club of Nigeria, Lekki Phase-1 chapter, and socio-humanitarian organisation, Reggae Republic, have announced plans to work with Greensprings Anthos House School on a Tree-planting Campaign.
This project, which is slated to take place at Greensprings Anthos House School at the Jakande axis of Lekki on July 6th, 2022, is part of Rotary’s annual Environmental Sustainability Program.
The day’s activities include a tree-planting activity that will be flavoured with a reggae dance party and a poetry recital on the environment by Evelyn Osagie of The Nation Newspapers.
According to the Project Coordinator, Washington Uba, of Reggae Republic, the partnership is in tandem with their philosophy of inculcating the culture of saving the Earth into young people.

Mr. Uba urged Nigerians, especially Lagosians to join in this noble campaign and imbibe the culture of tree planting.
He said, “Rotary Club of Lekki Phase 1 shares the same vision and ideals of impacting positively on humanity with the Reggae Republic, this partnership is well made and couldn’t have come at a better time.
“Tree planting symbolizes hope and the continuity of life. The journey of planting one Million trees begins with one and we want to encourage our young ones to start planting trees.
“Trees provide enormous benefits to our everyday lives. They filter the air, provide fresh drinking water, help curb climate change, and create homes for thousands of species of plants and animals.
“So planting a Million Trees annually by the citizens of the Republic alongside our partners can help save the Earth from deforestation and Climate change.”
Responding, Mrs. Yetunde Dimowo, the President of Rotary club of Lekki Phase 1, said that they are particularly excited because the project is in line with their slogan- ‘Service to Humanity’.
She said that their club Rotary International, is an organisation that has over 1.2million members all over the world, and has been in existence for over 100 years. “The Lekki Phase 1 chapter of Rotary Club has been serving humanity for the past 15 years”, she said.
The site for the tree-planting project, Greensprings Anthos House, is a unique school in Nigeria which provides a safe, secure and well-supported learning environment for children with a variety of needs such as Autism, Down syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, GDD, and Encephalopathy.
“Its underlying philosophy is that every child deserves love, support and opportunity to have access to an education that will allow them to take their place in society.
“All these are achieved in an integrated approach through care and therapy while being committed to strong academic progress delivered as functional skills”, Uba added.
Speaking further on their project, he said that Reggae Republic is keen on their initiative to plant One Million Reggae Trees in the ‘Schools Go Green Project’.
“Reggae Republic was inspired by the UNESCO declaration in Nov, 29th 2018. It is a forum for intellectual discourse for reggae lovers to learn, research, understand the importance and the impact of Reggae music as a brand for over half a century in the advancement of humanity.
“It is in this vein we created an annual event tagged ‘29th November’, to plant one million trees. And our main purpose is to address the challenges of desertification and climate change with the rest of the World”, Uba said.
