Rohr’s Eagles need more time to rule Africa -Patrick Pascal

By George Aluo

Super Eagles team coordinator, Patrick Pascal has appealed to Nigerian soccer fans to be patient with the present crop of Super Eagles players insisting that the boys would be unstoppable when they fully mature.

The Bauchi State born former Eagles forward while thumbing up the team for finishing with a bronze in Egypt noted that Rohr is parading a bunch of players that in his words…”are just coming up.”

Hear him: “It is in the next two, three years that we would begin to appreciate what we have now. Most of the players we have now are boys that can still play for the national team for another 10 years given their ages. And one thing going for them is that they are talented. What we just need do is to keep building and consolidating on the gains made so far. The boys have been to the World Cup and they have also tasted Nations Cup action. They are gradually garnering experience. Look at Chukwueze…he is a gifted player. Onyekuru and Samuel Kalu are also fantastic. In the defence, Ola Aina, Jamiu Collins, Awaziem are all defenders that would become very solid with time. Etebo and Ndidi are also quality midfielders. In fact, Ndidi should be playing for one of the best clubs in Europe because I rate him very high. You can imagine we came to Egypt with only three players that had previously played in AFCON. So, my appeal is for Nigerians to be patient with the team. If we plan well, we are building another team that would be at the same level as the Super Eagles class of 94 that dazzled the Africa and the world.”

Pascal who in his heyday laced boots for 3SC and Gombe United before playing Oversees for several European clubs also noted that the present Eagles are cool headed.

“As the team coordinator, I m the first to wake up and the last person to go to bed. I monitor the situation in camp and ensure everything is fine. I can tell you that the level of discipline in camp is high and this makes my job easy.”

Pascal who before the Nations Cup delved fully into football administration emerging as the new Bauchi FA chairman after a keenly contested election said his vision is to lay a solid foundation for Bauchi football.

He thanked football stakeholders in his state for the confidence they reposed on him, even as he vowed not to disappoint.

“Virtually all the football stakeholders in my state wanted me to run for the state FA chairmanship position. They literally dragged me out to contest because they wanted a new breed to lead the state FA. Haven won the election, I will do my best not to disappoint. I will lay a solid foundation for football in the state,” Pascal assured.
