Robbers kill woman while begging for her husband’s life

A woman, identified as Modupe Catherine has been murdered by suspected armed robbers while pleading with the robbers to spare her husband’s life in the Iju area of Lagos State. 

The deceased, who was murdered at about 12:40a.m on January 1, 2019, was at home with her husband, identified simply as Mr. Akin, when the robbers stormed their house.

Her children had also gone for cross-over service in church when the dare devil robbers attacked the family holding them hostage at gun point.

While the robber threatened to kill her husband if he did not give them a reasonable amount of money, Catherine quickly ran to stand between the robbers and her husband to plead for mercy.

She was pleading with them not to kill her husband when unfortunately she was shot on the chest.

She reportedly died almost immediately.

The robbers made away with phones,  laptops,  cash of N2,200 and other valuables.

When briefed of the incident, the Lagos Commissioner of Police,  CP Imohimi  Edgal, ordered operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad attached to the Command to arrest the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

The directive paid off as two of the  gang members,  Isah Shobayo and Ogundimu Olalekan, were arrested.

Parading the suspects, on Tuesday, at the Lagos Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja, CP Edgal said, “ When the family was attacked by the robbers, the deceased stood between the robbers and her husband and started pleading with them not to kill him.

“Unfortunately for the woman, one of the robbers pulled the trigger firing the deceased on her chest.

“They made away with their phones, laptops and cash sum of N2,200.”

“On my directive, SARS operatives visited the scene and gathered items of evidential importance which were analysed leading to the arrest of one of the robbers.

“During interrogation, he gave his name as Isah Shobayo and confessed committing the crime. He later led detectives to arrest one Ogundimu Olalekan who served as their armourer.”

Similarly, the Command said three robbery suspects have also been arrested from different parts of the state.

At the Alaba International Market,  one Chinedu Kelechi Kenneth aged 34, was arrested with a cut to size triple barrel gun with seven unexpended cartridges and one Acura SUV with Reg. No. KTU 253 FL used as his operational car.

Two traffic robbers were also arrested at CMD Road, Ikosi Ketu in Lagos. The suspects named Jiwadu Yusuf Onikosi, 32, and Abiodun Aruya, 38.

The two suspects were immediately taken to their houses for search, during which one pump action gun with two lives cartridges were recovered.
