Former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose and the Chairman, Air Peace, Alex Onyema has commended Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, over the commissioning of 36 network roads across the state.
The duo spoke on Thursday at the formal opening of Ikeja GRA network of roads in Ikeja local government area.
The roads were Oba Dosunmu street, Oduduwa Way, Oduduwa crescent, Sobo Arobiodu and Sasegbon streets.
While commending Sanwo-Olu, Fayose said the governor has proved bookmakers wrong in terms of performance.
Fayose added that six years ago, when the governor was chosen to replace the then Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, he alongside many people doubted his competence to be governor..
He, however, said Governor Sanwo-Olu has silenced his doubters including him.
“You have sent the right signal. I celebrate your progress and appreciate you. Six years ago when you were chosen to be governor, many people doubted your capacity including me but you have proved bookmakers wrong including me. We love you,” Fayose said.
The former governor further said though he is not a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC but he appreciates good performance.
“I am not a member of APC and will never be a member but when someone is good, he’s good. You can not go for a 3rd term but we can push you to the federal,” Fayose said.
On his part, the Chairman of Air Peace, Alex Onyema thanked the governor for transforming the Ikeja GRA and Lagos in general.
He described the governor as a round peg in round role adding that when compared with President Bola Tinubu when he was governor of Lagos State in 1999 in terms of performance, governor Sanwo-Olu has outshined the President.
“I am proud of Lagos State. You have outshined the President when he was governor. We need you someday at the federal level. We have found a new Nigerian leader in Sanwo-Olu. Don’t leave politics after leaving the government, we need people like you to transform Nigeria. Thank you for your transformation agenda,” Onyema said.
Responding, governor Sanwo-Olu said the new roads will enhance socio-economic benefits of Ikeja and its environs, reduce traffic congestion and address incessant flooding in the GRA axis.
He promised that more roads will be constructed in other parts of the state.
“No part of the state will be left behind. We will not shy away from quality leadership. We will serve the good people and provide real dividends of democracy, “he said.
The Special Adviser, Office of Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola noted that the newly rehabilitated roads will ease vehicular movement and improve interconnectivity.
Ha added that Ikeja GRA as a prestigious location deserves a good network of roads as it serves as both residential areas and a vibrant mixed-development district.
