Rivers crisis: APC moves to impeach Fubara

The protracted political crisis  in Rivers has taken yet another twist as the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state has urged the 27 members of the State House of Assembly to immediately commence impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminlayi Fubara

The lawmakers are loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who is at daggers drawn with Fubara, his political godson.

Tony Okocha, the State APC Caretaker Committee Chairman of the APC, on Tuesday made the call at a news briefing in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

According to him, Fubara had consistently disrespected President Bola Tinubu by refusing to implement all the eight-point peace agreement reached in Abuja on the political crisis in the state, to which he appended his signature.

“A state as crucial and all-important as Rivers State churned out a dunderhead. We cannot accept that. Our charge to the Assembly is to immediately commence an impeachment process against the Governor,” Okocha said.

“And if they don’t do that there is what they call party discipline. We shall invoke the relevant section of the constitution.”
