Rihanna slams Alabama governor for banning abortion

Rihanna has condemned Kay Ivey, governor of Alabama, for approving a bill which bans women from having abortion in the state.

The 31-year-old Barbadian singer, who shared a photo grid of Alabama legislators on her official social media account, kicked against the new act while calling out the lawmakers.

“Take a look. these are the idiots making decisions for women in America. Governor Kay Ivey…Shame on you,” Rihanna said.

Ivey, a Republican governor, signed the controversial bill which made abortion illegal in the state on Wednesday.

“I signed into law the Alabama Human Life Protection Act, a bill that was approved by overwhelming majorities in both chambers of the Legislature,” Ivey said.

“To the bill’s many supporters, this legislation stands as a powerful testament to Alabamians’ deeply held belief that every life is precious and that every life is a sacred gift from God.”

Riri, as fondly called by fans, has a different opinion on the bill’s relevance to the right of women in the state.

The act places a ban on women in the state from having an abortion after six weeks into their pregnancy with the exception of ectopic pregnancy, and cases where the unborn child has a “lethal anomaly”.

Doctors who conduct abortion outside the confines of this act may also be sentenced to life imprisonment.
