The mission by suspected hoodlums to avenge the death of a colleague was aborted and police operatives at the Sango Ota Area Command, Ogun State arrested five members of the gang in possession of a corpse in the process.
The Nigerian Xpress gathered that rival gangster engaged in a bloody clash in Mushin, Lagos.
The gang lost a member during the clash and decided to take the battle to Ota, Ogun State homes of the rivals who allegedly caused the death of their colleague.
The gang took the dead member’s corpse in a tricycle and were brandishing dangerous weapons, including cutlasses, cudgels and sticks.
Policemen at Sango Ota Area Command received a distress call that some hoodlums were brandishing weapons and damaging people’s property as they moved into Ogun State through the Ota tollgate.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident added that ”following the distress call, the Area Commander Sango Ota, Monday Agbonnika, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), quickly mobilised police patrol team to the area where the hoodlums were met on the rampage destroying people’s property and stealing from innocent members of the public along Ilo-Awela Road.
“The police team engaged and subdued them and five amongst them were subsequently arrested.”
The arrested suspects were identified as Babatunde Shittu, 25; Ayobami Morenikeji, 15; Fidelis John, 23; Abdullah Adegbenro, 17 and Oyeyemi Bakare, 20.
On interrogation, they informed the police that they went to a party in Mushin, Lagos and on their way back, a fight ensued amongst them and one of them was overrun by a fast-moving vehicle and he died on the spot.
“They stated further that they were taking the corpse to the families of their attackers namely; Omo Ekun, Lampard and Anko purposely for revenge mission,” the police spokesman further explained.
“The hoodlums before the arrival of the police had damaged one Highlander jeep with registration number KJA 275 GD, belonging to one Emmanuel Adekoya. They had also snatched an Infinix phone from one Falola Olushola and a cash sum of 50,000 from Emmanuel Agbaje.”
Oyeyemi said the corpse had been recovered from the suspects and deposited at the Ifo General Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.
The Commissioner of Police (CP) Edward Ajogun has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
“The CP also appealed to parents to warn their children from partaking in any act capable of undermining the peace of the state as such act will be met with strict resistance,” the PPRO added.
