Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday warned organisers of the August 1 protest to restrict their protest to the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park and the Peace Park in compliance with the court order.
The governor spoke while addressing journalists at the State House, Ikeja on Wednesday evening on the eve of the protest.
It is recalled a Lagos State High Court on Monday gave an order restricting the protesters to the two parks.
The governor noted that the police have been briefed on the court order and are ready to enforce it, adding that while protest is a constitutional right of every Nigerian, using it as a means to sack an elected government is not constitutional.
He further said the state government is committed to ‘improving the living standard of our people’ and appealed to all Lagosians to reflect on the effects of the 2020 EndSars protest which was hijacked ‘by people with devilish intentions.’
“Let us not allow our city to be plunged into chaos again. Lagos remains the safest city. We must reject violence and disorder. Let us say no to any form of violence. Our shared goals is a prosperous Lagos. Our government is open to dialogue,” he said.
