The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Olufemi Adebanjo, winner of Saturday’s House of Representatives elections in Alimosho Federal Constituency.
Announcing the results at the commission ‘s collation centre in Ikotun on Monday, the Returning Officer, Prof. A. A Adekunle said Adebanjo polled 55,136 to defeat his closest rival, Mr Abdul Azeez Akinsanya of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 37,539.
Adekunle said: ” I hereby declare Olufemi Adebanjo of APC, having satisfied the requirements of law and scored the highest number of votes, as winner and he is returned elected”.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the result means that Adebanjo who currently represents the area at the lower chamber is retaining his seat.
Meanwhile, the INEC Returning Officer for the Somolu Federal Constituency, House of Representatives election, Prof. Ola Aluko, on Monday said that there was no clear winner yet in the election.
Announcing the results on Monday at the Somolu INEC Collation Centre in Lagos, Aluko, of the Urban and Regional Planning Department, University of Lagos (UNILAG), said that the total number of votes cancelled stood at 8,213.
He said that this was higher than 3,137, the difference recorded between All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the leading parties in the election.
The returning officer said that the APC scored 27,793 and PDP 24,656.
“From what we have, the margin between the two candidates of the leading parties is just 3,137 whereas the number of total votes cancelled is 8, 213.
“This definitely means there can’t be winner for now,” he said.
He identified reasons for the cancellation in the affected polling units to include unreturned results for collation, over-voting, card-reader failure, non-use of card readers and manual votes.
Aluko also said the total vote cast in the zone was 56,383 out of which the total valid votes recorded was 53,055 and total number of those rejected standing at 3,328.(NAN)
