The lawmaker representing Ado/Ogbadibo/Okpokwu Federal Constituency, Dr. Francis Ottah Agbo, has condemned Saturday’s attack on the Benue State Governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom.
A press statement issued by Mr Andrew Agbese, media adviser to Dr. Ottah Agbo quoted him as describing the attack which happened at Tyo Mu along Makurdi/Gboko Road in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State, as a failed attempt to silence the voice of reason crying in defence of the people of Benue.
Agbo expressed gratitude to God that the gunmen who were said to have trailed the governor to a riverbank on foot, did not succeed in harming him.
The lawmaker said if the attack was meant to silence Governor Ortom and make him compromise on the security and wellbeing of his people, then those behind it had failed as the governor was not someone who could be intimidated.
He said: “The Ortom I know is not someone who can be intimidated or forced to abandon his people. From what I know of Governor Ortom, this would only spur him to continue to stand and defend his people.
“Those using this antic have failed and will continue to fail because like the late Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia once said, we are confident in the victory of good of over evil.”
Agbo who is the chairman House of Representatives Committee on Narcotic Drugs called on the security agencies especially troops of Operation Whirl Stroke, the police, and DSS to ensure the bandits were apprehended and brought to justice.
