Wole Adedeji, Ilorin
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has urged the Muslim faithful in the state to show understanding, in their worships, with the present lockdown and restrictions against the Coronavirus as they begin the Ramadan.
The governor expressed deep feelings that such restrictions on movement and public gatherings would affect them during this special exercise in the Islamic faith but he called for their understanding.
The governor had said, “I felicitate with the Muslim ummah on the coming of another Ramadan, a month in which God’s mercies are exceptionally abundant and His forgiveness far-reaching.
“I fully appreciate the fact that this is a peculiar moment for all of humanity during which movement is restrained to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the interest of everyone.
“I am consoled however by the fact that history is replete with examples of the best of the Muslim generations having to suspend group activities on safety grounds.”
He enjoined them to observe their ‘sahuur’ and ‘If-tar’ in conditions that would not spread the Coronavirus and endanger themselves and others.
The governor continued, “Finally, I urge the Muslim community to remain true to the dictates of this special period while also praying to the Almighty Allah to shower His unqualified mercies on the human community and save us from all afflictions like COVID-19″, the governor concluded.
Earlier, Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, had also urged Muslim faithful in the state to commence Ramadan fasting hinging it on the announcement by the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), His Eminence Alhaji Muhammadu Saad Abubakar III.
Alhaji Gambari charged Muslim ‘Ummahs’ to use the month of Ramadan to move closer to Allah by engaging in good deeds, charity, humanitarian services, supplications as well as seeking forgiveness at all times.
