The said substance was concealed in a vessel,  MV SPAR SCORPION, loaded with sugar from Brazil, and were discovered during routine checks.
It was gathered that the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Tincan Island Command, were immediately alerted.
Giving details of the seizure, the NDLEA Tincan Island command boss, Sumaila Ethan, said after the agency was alerted, the consignment was put under surveillance for some days until two clearing agents came for it.
Ethan said the clearing agents were arrested and will aid the agency in its investigations.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO), Nigeria Customs Service, Tincan Island Port Command, Uche Ejesieme, also issued a statement on the discovery of the illegal drugs.
He said:  “ During routine discharge of Bulk Sugar at about 11:03 a.m. on Monday, February 8, at the Josepdam Terminal, the Terminal Operators noticed two bags of substances in the hopper that is used to discharge sugar from the Vessel into waiting trucks in the Terminal.
“ The bags were recovered by the Terminal Security Operatives who now invited the PSO to the Port Manager to report the developments, without recourse to the Customs.
“ However, we understand that the substances have been handed over to the NDLEA.  In this circumstance, it is only the NDLEA that can give further details on this issue.”
