Wife of the Oyo State Governor, Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde, has said loss of jobs caused by the poor state of the economy was not an excuse for any man to unleash violence on his wife or any women for that matter.
The governor’s wife said this when she led wives of chairmen of local government councils and other government appointees in the state on a campaign on violence against women and girls.
In an interview, Mrs. Makinde said women should always speak out on any form of violence against them.
Her words, “Some people lost their jobs as a result of COVID-19 and they have become frustrated because of that.

“As men, they think of how to provide for their families; but that is not an excuse to lay your hand on your wife. It is not acceptable and it must stop.”
Speaking during the march at Agodi area of the state capital, Mrs. Makinde also decried the cases of defilement of minors. She said the refusal of critical stakeholders to speak out was the reason the crime had continued.
“Don’t leave minors unattended to, and our girls should not be subjected to child labour, sex or physical abuse,” she added.
