Abdullahi Ibrahim, the Assistant Police Commissioner in charge of Police Area Command, Zaria on Thursday advised retiring police officers to engage in productive ventures to earn decent living at the end of their service.
Ibrahim gave the advice at a send-forth ceremony organised in honour of DSP Lamidi Adeoye who is due to retire on April 1, 2019.
The event was organised by personnel of Anchau Police Division in Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Ibrahim said the advice was imperative as there were many things to do to earn a living other than becoming a ‘Megad’, after retirement.
“For you to be respected in the society, you ought to have something doing to save yourself from embarrassment, because when you are doing something to earn a living no one can embarrass you.
“As a retiring officer, you shouldn’t feel that you will go back home and rest,” he said.

The Area Commander advised the retiring officer to continue with his humility and humble disposition, and prayed that the life after retirement would be better for the retiring officer.
In his speech, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Anchau, CSP Tijjani Yammama, said Adeoye joined the police service on April 1, 1984 as a recruit and rose through the rank to get to the officer cadre in 2013.
“By Monday, April 1, 2019 he will say bye-bye to police job, we therefore congratulate you for a peaceful retirement.”
In a goodwill message, the Kangiwan Zazzau and District Head of Anchau, Alhaji Tanimu Haruna appreciated Adeoye for his contributions towards prevailing peace in the area.
Haruna, who was represented by Sarkin Anchau Gari, Alhaji Yusuf Yakubu, prayed for the retiree and encouraged him to continue with his friendly way of life by accommodating all manner of people.

Responding, Adeoye expressed appreciation to his colleagues and the entire people of the area for their support and show of love.
While thanking God for keeping him alive to see the end of his carrier peacefully, Adeoye recalled that some of his colleagues lost their lives while other lost part of their limbs while serving the country.
“”I would like to thank the Area Commander for coming personally to attend the ceremony and I must thank my DPO for his maturity, courage and mentoring to the young ones.
“I am happy today am retiring with my two legs two hands, I pray all of you officers will enjoy the same privilege to retire peacefully and physically fit,” he said.
