A ‘yahoo school’ has been uncovered in Iju area of Lagos State by the state police command.
‘Yahoo’ in local parlance refers to Internet fraud with the school serving as a training facility where young ones are recruited and trained on Internet fraud.
The facility was busted by the police with the owner of the facility and his trainees arrested including a 12-year old boy Minachi Udochukwu.
According to the spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Tuesday, six trainees and four principal suspects were arrested at the facility.
The trainees were recruited from Anambra State by the suspects and trained in internet fraud while the suspects withhold their proceeds.
The statement named the suspects as 23 year old Chibuike Ihejika, 22-year old Stanley Ihejika, 26-year old Obiora Oyediba, 26; and Emmanuel Oyedibe who is 25-year old.
The trainees were Okorie Henry, Otoh Chisom, 20; Okeke Kwufrochikwu, 26; Uchenna Obeji, 26; Minachi Udochukwu, 12; and Chinedu Ukachukwu, 23.
The statement added injuries were found on the body of the 12-year old with investigation revealing that they were inflicted on him by the principal suspects. If further stated that the boy is currently receiving treatments while efforts are being made to locate his family.
However, the statement stated that the owner of the facility is currently on the run and have been asked by the police to turn himself in at the State Criminal Investigation Department.
Hundeyin said the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution upon the conclusion of investigation.
Hundeyin urged parents and guardians to watch what their children do so as to prevent them from joining bad companies or engaging in criminal activities.
