Police to investigate ‘E-money’, withdraws security details

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the Lagos State Police Command to launch an Investigation into the activities of  Chairman of Five Star Group, Emeka Okonkwo, alias e-money.

It was learnt that a signal sent to the command from the Force headquarters, ordered that the police escorts attached to the business mogul be withdrawn immediately.

Punch reports has it that the directive from the IGP followed allegations that E-money was using his police escorts as slave, instead of treating them as his with dignity as security details.

E-money is a successful clearing and forwarding agent, cum music executive, whose net worth is said to be run into billions of Naira.

It was learnt that pictures and videos of policemen holding umbrella and opening vehicles for E-money at different functions had emerged, which forced the IGP’s order.

According to Punch, a senior police officer said: “We received a signal from force headquarters on Monday, that the police details of music executive E-money be immediately withdrawn and an investigation into the man be launched.

“The IGP was surprised that policemen were attached to him in the first place, and were being used like domestic servants, carrying umbrellas, opening doors, and doing menial jobs for him.

“The policemen were discovered to be attached to B operation at the command headquaters, and not Mopol which is the usual practce. So we have withdrawn his policemen and we are inviting him for questioning. The policemen will also be interrogated.”   

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Elkana Bala, was called to confirm the directive, but as at the time of fillng this report, he was yet to respond to calls or a text message sent to his mobile phone number.
