Police rescue abducted four-year-old boy from cousin, others

A man’s attempt to make quick money by organising the kidnap of his four-year-old cousin has backfired.

According to the Kano State Police Command, Muhammad Nasir Jamilu was kidnapped by three suspects, Hisbullahi Salisu, 30, and Hassan Ali Rabiu, 28, both from Yakasai Quarters, Kano, and Hassan Aliyu, 22, of Hotoro Quarters, Kano.

Salisu, one of the suspects, is a cousin to the victim.

SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the state police spokesman, said in a statement to the press in Kano on Tuesday, Jamilu was abducted from Sharada Quarters and taken to Gwarzo Town, where a ransom of ₦10,000,000 was demanded.

He added that following negotiations, ₦300,000 was paid as a part of the ransom, pending the balance.

Salisu reportedly confessed to conspiring with the two others to carry out the kidnapping of his cousin.

However, the victim was rescued unharmed from captivity in Gwarzo Town, Gwarzo LGA, Kano State, and taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano for medical evaluation before he was reunited with his parents.

According to Kiyawa, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, upon receiving the report, gave marching orders to police operatives for the immediate rescue of the victim and the arrest of the culprits, a directive that was obeyed to the letter.

The Surveillance Team was commended by the state police command for their professionalism and prompt response, leading to the minor’s rescue.
