Two Rivers State pastors who.were found with caskets, skull and other fetish objects in their churches were on Thursday paraded by the Rivers State Police Command.
The pastors; 60-year old Prophet Bassey Umoren and 50-year old Prophet Elijah Anietie, were found with monkey skulls, and carved skeletons when the law enforcement agents raided their respective churches.
While Umoren is the founder of God’s Deliverance Apostolic Church, Anietie founded Power House of Glory International Gospel Church, both located along Eneka Road in Rumunduru.
Youths of Rumunduru community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state, had apprehended the two pastors when they stormed their churches and discovered the fetish objects and reported to.the police.
While parading the suspects at the,police headquarters, Rivers State, the spokesperson of the command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said on January 20,2025 at 9am, the youth leader of Rumunduru community, Henry Worlu,Rumunduru community led other youths to report the two pastors to the police .
“The youths brought the suspects, Prophet Umoren Bassey and Prophet Elijah Anietie, both of Akwa Ibom State origin and handed them over to the police for discreet investigation.”
According to her, the police stormed their churches and recovered items such as children’s photographs, small caskets, spiritual books, carved images, wooden skulls, crosses, and other ritual items.
She added that police have commenced investigations into the matter to ascertain the full extent of their activities and possible victims.
She also commended the youths of the community for being vigilant to happenings in their community and exposing the alleged activities of the suspects.
