Police officer who killed Lagos lawyer, Bolanle Raheem sentenced to death

ASP Drambi Vandi, the police officer who shot and killed Lagos based lawyer, Bolanle Raheem has been sentenced to death by hanging.
Vandi was sentenced, on Monday, by a Lagos State High Court presided by Justice Ibironke Harrison.
It is recalled that Vandi was suspended by the police after he shot Raheem dead at the Ajah roundabout in the presence of her husband on Christmas Day December 25, 2022 at a Police checkpoint in Lagos while returning from church on Christmas Day December 25, 2022.

In her judgment, the court found Vandi guilty on one count of murder.
At the time of the incident, the victim was pregnant at that time while the police officer was attached to the Ajiwe police division in the Ajah area of the state.
Lagos state government had filed a one-count charge of murder of the lawyer against the defendant and subsequently arraigned him.
Twenbty-seven exhibits were tendered by the prosecution while Vandi was the only witness who testified in his own defence.
He had denied killing Raheem and argued that the bullet that killed the victim did not come from the rifle he carried on the day of the incident.
