A final year student of Botany at the Lagos State University (LASU), Babatunde Adeyeye, has been declared wanted by the Nigeria Police Force, for kissing his younger sister of about five-year-old in an inappropriate manner.
A viral video of Adeyeye, sucking and kissing the lips of the little girl had emerged on social media, which attracted public outcry.
While many described the act as too inappropriate, some alleged that Adeyeye had the tendency to molest the girl if not stopped.
Barely 24 hours after the viral video, Adeyeye had in another video, apologised for his action.
He claimed he was only joking and meant no harm, while a woman in the video, suspected to be the mother of the girl, corroborated his statement, pleading for leniency.
However, following the outcry, the police had declared Adeyeye wanted, insisting he had question to answer.
The Police Complaint Unit through its verified twitter handle @PoliceNG_CRU, called for anyone with information on how to get the student to reach the unit.
The tweet by the police unit reads: “ Anyone with useful information (e.g Name, Phone number, Location or Address) of the man in the picture below should kindly reach out to us via DM or call 08057000001. Protection of your Identity is guaranteed, Thank you. #IGPAdamu #NoToChildAbuse #PoliceIsYourFriend. ”
Similarly, the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Tony Ojukwu, had also called for the arrest of Adeyeye.
Ojukwu in a tweet maintained the boy had committed a crime.
His tweet said: “ His name is Babatunde Adeyeye. Babatunde Adeyeye is a final year student of Botany in Lagos State University.
He shot an ‘apology’ video which was sent in to us today. He should be traced and arrested immediately. He has committed A CRIME against a minor and must face the law. ”
