Upon police arrival at the hotel and a thorough search of the rooms, a locally made double barrel gun was recovered from the room of the lovebirds.
Speaking on her arrest, Adebanjo said she had only known Taiwo for three months, saying she did not know he had a gun.
The apprentice whose son is barely three years old, said: “I am from Osun State. I met Taiwo three months ago at Mile 12 through one of my girlfriends. I am an apprentice and I have a son about three years old. I had him when I completed my secondary education. The father of my child abandoned me immediately I got pregnant. It was a church that took care of me until I put to bed. My baby is presently staying with my mother in Alakuko area, but my father is late.
“On that Friday night, my boyfriend and I went out to have fun. It was late so we decided to spend the night in Money Mark Hotel at Ketu. We got to the hotel at about past 11pm. We got a room and slept till morning when police officers knocked on the door at 6:30 am. My boyfriend, Taiwo, opened the door for them.

“The policemen said they were from Alapere Police Station and they searched everywhere but they found nothing. Then, they checked the bed; it was my boyfriend that helped them to raise the mattress. Underneath the bed was very dirty and dusty. Unfortunately, they found black nylon, which contained a gun. When they brought the gun out, I was very surprised because I don’t know anything about the gun or how it got into the room where we lodged for the night.”
Also denying knowledge of the gun, 26-year-old Taiwo, who works at a car wash, also said he had nothing to do with the gun.
Taiwo said: “I am surprised they discovered a gun in the hotel room. I have only been to that hotel twice before my arrest. I live with my aunty. That was why I took my girlfriend to a hotel to spend the night. After I paid for the hotel room, the hotel attendant gave us, when we got inside the room, we discovered that there was no television. I went back to the receptionist and complained. In fact, I didn’t want to lodge there again but because it was very late, I had to reconsider and we went back to the room. If I had known, maybe, I would not have lodged there.”
