Police arrest landlady’s daughter for beating tenant to death

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a lady, Tina Essi, for allegedly killing a 49-year-old tenant, Christian Akparie, at  No 26 Orijamogun Street, Oreyo, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

It was learnt that the duo had a disagreement over the payment of electricity bill on January 31.

The disagreement reportedly degenerated into a fight, and Akparie sustained serious wounds from it.

He, however, died six days after the fight, while been rushed to the Ikorodu General Hospital for treatment.

It was gathered that Essi incidentally is daughter of the deceased’s landlady.

According to the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the suspect was arrested by operatives of the Ikorodu Police Division.

In a statement, on Wednesday, Adejobi said: “Police preliminary investigation revealed that an argument, over the payment of electricity bill ensued between the Landladys daughter, Ms Tina Essi and the deceased, both of the same address, which led to a fight.

“After the fight, the deceased had continually suffered severe pains but unfortunately, on Saturday February 6, at about 7a.m. while the deceased was being rushed to the General Hospital, Ikorodu, he gave up the ghost.

“The police operatives attached to Ikorodu Division of the command were contacted and arrested the suspect immediately. The Commissioner of Police has ordered that the suspect be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, for thorough investigation. ”

He added that the police boss has urged the relatives of the deceased to remain calm as the command will do the needful to have justice done in the matter.

Admonishing Lagosian on how to deal with disputes, he said the state police boss appeals to Lagosians to always manage their differences and conflicts with maturity and seek police intervention where necessary to avoid untimely deaths and running into troubles.
