The Lagos State Police Command has arrested popular Nollywood Actress, Funke Akindele-Bello (also known as Jeniffa), for violating the state’s order on restriction from any form of social gathering.
Mrs. Akindele-Bello had, over the weekend, organised a birthday party for her husband, Abdul Rasheed Bello (also known as JJC Skillz), which had several celebrities from the entertainment industry in attendance.
Video of the birthday party shared on social media did not go unnoticed by Nigerians who dragged and criticised the couple, saying, “ It was responsible of the couple to hold such celebration, especially at a time the state, and indeed the country is trying to curtail the spread of Coronavirus.”
Concerned citizens had called for the arrest of the couple for displaying such act of irresponsibility.
The call paid off as the actress was arrested by detectives from the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID).
Confirming the arrest of the actress, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Elkana Bala, in a statement, on Sunday, said the command has also invited her husband and Azeez Fashola (a.k.a Naira Marley), who appeared in the video for questioning.
Bala said: “ The attention of Lagos State Police Command was drawn to a viral video showing a large number of persons mainly in the entertainment industry in an Estate, along Ajah, Ibeju-Lekki axis, Lagos celebrating a birthday party organised by Funke Akindele-Bello and her husband. Police detectives from SCIID Yaba were promptly drafted to the location. Funke Akindele was arrested.
“ Investigation is ongoing, efforts are intensified to arrest the remaining persons in the video, among whom are Azeez Fashola (a.k.a Naira Marley) and Abdul Rasheed Bello (a.k.a. JJC a). They are in their best interests urged to report at SCIID, on Monday April 6, 2020 or risk being declared wanted. “
