The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned Debo Adebayo, alias Mr Macaroni, and 39 others arrested at the #OccupyLekki protest on Saturday.
The suspects who were picked up as different groups, had come out to protest the reopening of Lekki Toll Gate, by the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry.
According to the Command, the arrested protesters were arraigned at a Mobile Court at Yaba and were granted bail of N100,000 each with sureties.
In a statement signed by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the 40 suspects were arrested for conspiracy, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and violation of COVID-19 protocols.
“ The suspects had gathered at the Lekki Toll Gate plaza creating tension and behaving in such a manner that could cause a breach of public peace without due regard for COVID-19 protocols major of which are the use of nose masks and social distancing.
“ The command has however arraigned the suspects today to the mobile court at Panti, Yaba accordingly but were however granted bail by the court.”
He said the suspects will appear in court on the next date of adjournment, March 2, with their certificate of COVID-19 test.
The command assured the general public that it will always discharge its statutory duties as expected within the ambit of the law while appealing to Lagosians to be law-abiding and go about their lawful businesses.

Similarly, in its bid to consistently enforce Covid-19 protocols, operatives of the Command have arrested 76 suspects at a birthday party.
Adejobi said the suspects were arrested violating Covid-19 protocols while partying at about 1 a.m. on Saturday.
“ The Divisional Police Officer, Maroko Division, led his team on enforcement of Covid-19 curfew which is between Midnight to 4 a.m. when he got wind of the gathering at Lavender court, Jakande Close Oniru Victoria Island Lagos.
“ Those arrested at the party included Popoola Michael, Adeyemo Opeyemi, Ramon salami, Kareem Akeem, Balogun Nurudeen and 71 others.
“ The Divisional Police Officer, Maroko Division, also impounded more than 136 vehicles for breaking the Midnight to 4 a.m. curfew on the island, ” he said.
The PPRO said the owners of the vehicles have been charged to the Mobile Court, Oshodi and were fined appropriately.
