Police arraign Naira Marley, manager for violation of interstate travel

Popular musician, Azeez Adeshina Fashiola, also known as Naira Marley was, on Thursday, arraigned for the violation of Interstate restriction of movement by the Lagos State Police Command.

Naira Marley, who was arraigned alongside his Manager, Seyi Awouga, at the Lagos State Special Offences (Mobile) Court, Oshodi, was charged with breach of cessation of movement and interstates travel order made by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The music artiste, had on June 13, travelled to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, for a a concert, and returned same day.

According to a statement by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, the accused persons pleaded guilty, and were awarded fines of N100,000 each.

The statement said: “ It could be recalled that on June 13, at about 2p.m., the suspect in total violation of the lockdown order, embarked on a non essential travel from Lagos to Abuja and back to Lagos the same date, through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja for a musical concert in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

“He was arraigned alongside his Manager Seyi Awouga, on one count charge of breach of cessation of movement and interstates travel order made by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under Regulation 4(i) of the Lagos State Infectious Disease Emergency Prevention) Regulation No 2 of 2020 and committed an offence punishable under Section 58 Public Health Law, Ch. P16, Laws of Lagos State 2015. ”

Recall that the Federal Government had also sanctioned Executive Jet Services for flying Naira Marley to Abuja for the concert.
