Plateau lawmakers enact one law in 100 days

The Plateau State House of Assembly said it has raised 12 Motions of Urgent Public Importance.

The motions, members said, bothers on challenges that touched directly on the lives of citizens of the state within 100 days of the 9th Assembly.

Chairman, House Committee on Information, who represents Pankshin North in the Assembly, Hon. Philip Daasun, stated this, on Tuesday, at the Assembly complex, in Jos, during a press conference as part of activities to mark hundred days in office.

He also said that the legislative arm of government had, within the same hundred days, passed one bill, and currently deliberating on six bills presented at the floor of the Assembly, among which three have undergone First Reading.

The Assembly decried increasing insecurity in the state as well as bad roads with major port holes causing accidents all over the state capital.

Hon. Dasun named some of the disasters that befell people of the state to include, killing of innocent citizens by gunmen, collapsed of buildings, flood disasters, communal clashes and illegal motor parks causing congestion on highways.

The lawmaker also revealed further that a major bridge within the Jos metropolis was recently cut off by flood affecting free follow of vehicular movement.

On health matters, the Assembly mandated the Executive arm to employ medical doctors to fill in the deficiencies of understaffed medical personnel in the state.

On the ongoing screening of commissioners nominees, Hon. Dasun said most of the commissioners were given a clean bill of health during the screening stage.

He said the state Assembly would ensure that citizens comply with the law that prohibits riding of commercial motorcycle within Jos and Bukuru metropolis. The said bill was passed by the 7th Assembly.
