The Lagos State Chapter of the PhotoJournalist Association of Nigeria (PJAN) has called on the Federal Government not to politicise security challenges in the country.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Otunba Kola Olasupo, at the end of its monthly meeting, lamented the high level of insecurity in the country and frowned at efforts by the government to play politics with it.
The association attributed insecurity in the country to unemployment among the youth which has resulted in attacks by bandits on trains, aircraft and roads.
As a way of tackling insecurity, it urged the government to vigorously pursue vocational training for youth and make use of the Industrial Training Fund to engage youth for internships in various companies.
It also advocated for installation of more Security lights and Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at major locations to help in the prevention, investigation and possible arrests of criminal elements.
The association called on Lagos State government to improve security in areas such as Oju-Irin, Ebute Meta, Fagba, Agege, Ojodu-Berger and Oshodi, and advised parents to educate their children on the harmful use of drugs which has become worrisome.
