The National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) on Thursday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to focus on actualising the roadmap for the aviation sector during his second term.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the President of NAAPE, Mr Abednego Galadima, made the call at an Aviation Stakeholders Safety Workshop in Lagos State.
Galadima, while congratulating Buhari on his recent presidential victory, said it was an opportunity for him to consolidate on the achievements recorded in his first tenure.
He said,” I wish to use this opportunity to call on him to use this term to actualise the realisation of second Abuja runway project, Nigerian Air and other laudable projects as contained in the aviation roadmap document”.
Galadima said that NAAPE had for over three decades been in the forefront of advocating for the rights, welfare and privileges of Nigerian pilots and engineers.

According to him, the association has also ensured professionalism and professional excellence on the other hand, while promoting safety of the aviation industry.
He enjoined aircraft pilots and engineers to remain safety conscious and continue to give topmost priority to safety issues.
Also, Mr Akin Olateru, Commissioner, Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), said NAAPE’s importance and relevance in the aviation industry could not be overemphasised.
Olateru, represented by a Director in AIB, Mr Mohammed Wali, said the association’s focus on the welfare of aircraft pilots and engineers promotes total safety in the aviation industry in Nigeria and the world.
He said : “The safety levels that the global air transport enjoys today represents an achievement built on the determination and efforts of the entire aviation community.
”Considering the level of commitments made by this current administration to ensure a safe airspace for air transport users, the theme of this workshop; ‘Promoting Aviation Safety in Nigeria’ is relevant and appropriate.
“I, therefore, implore all pilots, engineers and stakeholders to note that safety is not a one man business.
“We all need to play our part to ensure a safer airspace for Nigeria that will be worthy of emulation by other countries across the globe.” (NAN)
