PAP launches Cooperative Society for ex-agitators

.....N1.5 billion budgeted for programme

The Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) commences sensitisation programme on the importance of the recently-launched ‘Presidential Amnesty Beneficiary Cooparative Society (PABCS)’ for former agitators as N1.5 billion has been earmarked for the success of the cooperative society progrmme.
The Cooperative Society programme was launched recently, in Abuja, to enable the former agitators become entrepreneurs in various fields of endeavour.
Financial Secretary of the PABCS, Comrade Tonye Bobo, who spoke to journalists on assumption of office at the headquarters of the Cooperative programme, in Yenagoa, on Monday, disclosed that the sensitisation programme for Bayelsa State would commence, on Tuesday.

Describing the programme as ‘life-changing’, Comrade Bobo, who is also Chairman of the 3rd Phase of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, noted that people were eager to know if the Cooperative programme was real. He said that the sensitisation has to kick-start immediately to keep the former agitators abreast of activities of the programme.
Comrade Bobo, who also doubles a member of the strategic committee for the Amnesty progrmme, disclosed that the sum of N1.5 billion, was already in account of the ex-agitators to run the programme.
However, N500 million would be put into the corporative account monthly for running of the programme , added Bobo who lauded Maj.-Gen. Barry Ndiomu (rtd), for the gesture which would brighten the future of the former agitators.
“This cooperative is what people are eager to know if it is for real. This corporative that has been launched is a life changing programme
“It will not be business as usual where people will be trained , given starter packs and sell them or to be misused.

“We are having N1.5 billion in our account to be managed by the ex-agitators.
“N500 million be put into the corporative account monthly for us to manage.
“On Tuesday we will be kick starting the sensitisation , we will talk to our people (ex-agitators ) from the various states starting from Bayelsa state … before we go into the corporative business.”
He also commended the various achievements of Ndiomu since he came on board as the Interim administrator of PAP as he swung into action to continue with the various programmes of the past administrators.
While appealing to President Bola Tinubu to sustain the Amnesty programme due to its importance to the Niger Delta region he also called on critical stakeholders and the press for partnership and positive reporting of its activities.
Comrade Bobo also appealed to President Tinubu not to change the Interim Administrator to enable him accomplish his achievements on the programme.
“We appeal to President Tinubu not to subject the office of the Interim Administrator to changes to enable him complete his achievements which included payment of huge debts inccured by previous administrators of the programme, refurbishing of all offices of the programme in various parts of Nigeria, amongst other achievements.
