Oyo wins Babatunde wheelchair basketball championship

Team Oyo has emerged as the new champion of the annual Otunba Babatunde Babalola wheelchair basketball championship which was decided at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere,  Lagos.
In an entertaining encounter watched by basketball enthusiasts,  the team defeated their Lagos State counterparts  43-18 to be crowned champions of the two-day event just as Edo State won the 3rd place match by recording a resounding 30-2 points victory against Delta in a one-sided encounter.
Speaking while presenting a giant trophy and medals to the winners, sponsor of the event/ Chief Executive Officer of Deep Water Services Limited, Otunba Babaloa declared that his passion to develop special sports made him initiate the annual competition pledging that he will continue to assist the players to achieve their potential in the game.

“ I was driven by a passion to sponsor this annual tournament and I see it as my little contribution towards developing special sports in the country.
‘ you’re aware that  in 2013,  I sponsored  Nigeria wheelchair basketball team to South Africa  where they emerged second and improved  the country’s rating in the  sports  at the continental level and I will continue to encourage them to excel’, he promised
Otunba Babalola who also doubles as Proprietor of Deep Water Basketball Club,  while commending the players for their sense of maturity and playing to the rules of the game throughout the duration of the championship promised that next year’s edition will be more glamorous as plans are underway to ensure that more states take part in the event.
“ My vision is to see that the game of wheelchair basketball is played in all the 36 states of the Federation and the FCT. In next year’s edition, we will encourage all states with a wheelchair basketball team to participate because we want to make it a national championship”, he concluded.
