Oyo Govt demolishes Yoruba Nation agitators’ building
Oyo State Government has demolished the building where the Yoruba Nation agitators led by Modupe Onitiri-Abiola are operating from in Ibadan, the state capital.
The building, located on Toye Oyesola Street in Ibadan, the state capital, was demolished on Wednesday, April 17, 2024.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, CP Fatai Owoseni, confirmed the demolition of the building.
On Wednesday, about 29 Yoruba Nation agitators were arraigned before the Chief Magistrates Court in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, for their involvement and roles in the failed invasion of the Governor’s Office and the state House of Assembly.
The case, with charge number Mi/520c/2024, is between the Commissioner of Police and the 29 suspects.
They were arraigned on seven counts of treasonable felony, unlawful society, illegal possession of firearms, and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.
The Investigative Police Officer, Bakare Rasaq, an inspector with the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, Ibadan, said the offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
Recall that on Saturday, April 13, some armed men identified as Yoruba nation agitators invaded the Oyo State Government secretariat, attempting to break into the Governor’s Office and the state House of Assembly complex.
