In what was clearly one of the biggest rallies in the current gubernatorial campaigns in Bayelsa, about 8000 kinsmen òf the APC Candidate, Chief David Lyon, have declared support for the Candidate of the People Democratic Party, Senator Douye Diri.
A statement by the Director of Media and Publicity of the Senator Douye Diri Campaign Organisation, Dr. Jonathan Obuebite, on Monday, stated that the Southern Ijaw people took the decision at Amassoma, on Monday evening.
Amassoma, the country home of the first civilian Governor of Bayelsa state, Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha, is the largest community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

The unprecedented crowd and heavy traffic temporarily halted business activities in the community as shops were temporarily closed to receive the PDP campaign train.
The people displayed placards with inscriptions ‘Amassoma is for PDP’ Amassoma is PDP’ ‘Say no to APC’ APC responsible for the untimely death of our brother, Chief Alamieyeseigha.’
The mammoth crowd said the PDP administration has impacted positively on the people of not only Amassoma community but the entire Southern Ijaw local government area of the state and deserved to be supported.
The Vice Chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Pastor Perkins Ogede, warned the APC against dropping the nam of late Chief Alamieyeseigha In the desperation for political undue political advantage.
He said that till his death Chief Alamieyeseigha did not believe in political ideology of the APC.
“The APC should stop using the name of late Chief Alamieyeseigha to curry political favour. Everything in Amassoma, the Alamieyeseigha country home was provided by the PDP. That for five years Chief Timipre Sylva was governor he did not drop one bucket of sand in the NDU. That it’s only the Dickson administration that has constructed the only dual carriage way road linking the old campus to the new and has also built the only Senate building in the Unicersity and has awarded the fencing of the institution
“No other party brought a bucket of water to Amassoma. It is a shame and indeed an act of betrayal on the part of the APC to make deceptive claims.
“They are using the late Chief Alamieyeseigha’s name having forgotten that he never believed in the APC. Don’t be deceived by the name dropping of the late Alamieyeseigha. Alamieyeseigha is PDP. It is betrayal of Ijaw ideals and culture for someone to even think of APC. Bayelsa is for PDP.” He said.

Also in his solidarity speech, the immediate past Director of Protocol, Government House, Mr. Joseph Akedesuo, disclosed that Chief Alamieyeseigha was harassed, humiliated, threatened, and arrested over trumped up charges due to his decision not to join APC.
In his address, the standard bearer of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), Senator Douye Diri, promised to open up most of the communities in the local government areas through the completion of existing roads and the initiation and execution of new ones.
Senator Diri promised to build on the gains of the Restoration Administration under the leadership the Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson with emphasis on health, education
