Outgoing Slovakian President to form new party

Outgoing Slovakian President, Andrej Kiska, on Wednesday said that he would form a new political party. “Slovakia wants a change,’’ the 56-year-old leader said in a video on his Facebook page.

Speculation over the millionaire’s future political plans has been rife since he declared in 2018 that he would not seek a second term but would stay active in politics.

The country’s next president, liberal lawyer Zuzana Caputova, won a convincing victory in an election on Saturday.

Kiska had backed Caputova during her campaign.

“We won these elections,’’ Kiska said in the video.

“Now we must win the parliamentary elections.

“Therefore, I am founding a political party.’’

Caputova is due to take office on June 15. (NAN)
