One dies, 7 injured in accident on Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Expressway – TRACE

The Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps ( TRACE) has confirmed the death of one person and that seven others sustained various degrees of injury in an accident that happened around 2.30 a.m. on Wednesday.

TRACE said that the accident involved a Toyota bus loaded with passengers and a Fiat Van happened around Babcock University on Sagamu – Ijebu Ode Expressway.

Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson of TRACE , confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abeokuta on Thursday.

The spokesman said that the accident was caused by reckless driving and loss of control on the part of the bus driver.

Akinbiyi noted that the accident occurred around 2:30a.m. on Wednesday, the bus coming from one of the South-eastern states heading to Lagos.

“The driver of the bus was driving recklessly and in the process lost control of the steering and rammed into a white Fiat van marked LAM 528 LG from behind,” he said.

He explained that the dead victim was the driver of the bus marked : AKD 101 XS , while the injured victims were the  passengers of the bus.

Akinbiyi said that the corpse of the driver has been deposited at the Idera Hospital mortuary, Sagamu, while the injured were taken to Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan. (NAN)
