Ohaneze election: Unity, security of Igbos my ultimate concern -Obiozor.

 Johnkennedy Uzoma, Owerri

A top contender in the January 10th 2021 Ohaneze Ndigbo president general election, Prof. George Obiozor has pledged to make unity and security of the Igbo in Nigeria and abroad a priority, if elected into office.

Obiozor said that the position of president of Ohaneze Ndigbo required a mature and experienced person like him with the capacity to build enough consensus to define the interest of Ndigbo.

He said: “Ndigbo, believe me, can have our people fairly unified again not really as Igbo state union days, but somehow closer”.

He regretted that the Igbo preferred to abandon those things that united them to giving priority to those things that divided them, noting that it was the main problem confronting the Ndigbo.

He said his dream type of leadership would be anchored on leader/manager model, adding that he would use the most available efficient persons and instruments to achieve Igbo collectively defined objectives.

He regretted that the security of Ndigbo in Nigeria and beyond had become a primary responsibility and of serious concern for Ndigbo.

According to him, at home the story of insecurity of Ndigbo had reached incrementally dangerous level of existential threat, a situation that had made them the most vulnerable and victims of violence throughout the country.

While promising a mechanism to tackle and bring solution to the problem, Obiozor regretted that Ndigbo had become most exposed to physical violence, attack and destruction of their houses or properties at the slightest crisis in any part of Nigeria.

He recalled that since the end of the civil war Ndigbo had not faced existential threats as they were experiencing, adding that the position of Ndigbo must be carefully handled and wisely presented.

While assuring that with diplomatic dexterity, decency, candor and decorum the wishes of Ndigbo would be achieved, he pointed out that the position of everyone should begin with effort to effectively re-integrate the Ndigbo into Nigeria politically and otherwise.
