For allegedly flouting some sections of its constitution, 13 members of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Imo State have been slammed with indefinite suspension by the oganisation’s leadership.
This followed alleged false and misleading media report of purported impeachment and vote of no confidence against its president, Dr. Ezechi Chukwu.
Briefing newsmen, in Owerri, the state secretary of Ohanaeze, Amb. Kenneth Nwachukwu, disclosed that only five, out of the 12 people who endorsed the purported “vote of no confidence petition” are genuine members of the executive committee of the body. He stressed that the other 46 Exco members are firmly behind Chukwu’s leadership.

The crisis is traceable to the selection of the next President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, which is the turn of Imo State to fill.
Nwachukwu stated the purported impeachment of Chukwu were was orchestrated by opponents to the choice of Professor George Obiozor for the plum office, insisting that Ohanaeze Ndigbo in the state is fully in support of Obiozor in line with the reported resolution of the organisation’s elders and leaders in the state.
“This is an Imo Ohanaeze solemn resolution and it has nothing to do with Dr. Ezechi Chukwu as a person and our support for Obiozor is based on merit and the added value his leadership portends compared with other equally qualified sons of ours who showed interest,” he said, citing sections of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo constitution to back up his assertion.
