Ogun State governor, Adedapo Abiodun has thrown his weight behind the maiden 50 km African Ultra Road Race billed to hold December 7 in Remo land.
This much was disclosed on Saturday by the organizers of the event at a press briefing held in Sagamu, the ancient Remo town that would be hosting the athletics show.
Bukola Olopade of Nilayo Sports whose outfit is packaging the event said he has held fruitful discussions with the governor of Ogun state who he said was excited that the 50 km road race is to be staged in Remo land where interestingly, the governor hails from.
“One thing I can assure you is that the governor is solidly behind the race. I spoke with him and he was so excited that the event is being staged in Remo land. He has assured you that his government would do the needful talking about upgrading the facilities on ground before the December 7 date. The traditional ruler of the ancient Remo kingdom is also happy we are coming to his domain,” Olopade said.
The IAAF measurer, Norrie Williamson who measured the route expressed satisfaction with the terrain, even as he said said he looks forward to a memorable road race that would attract over 250 runners from different parts of the continent.
The African President of International Ultra Race, Evangelist Solomon Ogba disclosed that the Remo race being bankrolled by Value Jet, an aviation outfit, would be the first in which winners would be pocketing prize money.
