Reacting after signing the Charter, Dr. Dressman said after consulting with the wider Obolo leadership, he was informed that “it would be a sin against Obolo” if he did not sign.
Spokesperson for the Delta Congress, Barr. Ovunda C. Eni, said that the Niger Delta Peoples Charter will be signed by the representatives of all ethnic nationalities of the six states of the South South and calls for a new constitution, a cleanup of the entire Niger Delta, refund of all monies gotten from crude oil mining since 1960 amongst others as a precondition for the Niger Delta area to remain within Nigeria.

Failure to meet these demands by the government and the Niger Delta will be forced to assert its rights to self determination as contained in the Charter and declare for its people an independent nation state outside Nigeria.
The Niger Delta Peoples Charter will be presented to the general public in February 2023, 55 years after the declaration of the Niger Delta Republic by Major Isaac Adaka Boro.
