Obioma succeeds Uwakwe as NECO registrar

President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the appointment of Professor Godswill Obioma, as the new Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the National Examinations Council (NECO).

Until his appointment Obioma was the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ebonyi State.

Obioma replaces Charles Uwakwe, who was removed from office recently after being on suspension since last year.

In a letter dated May 15, 2020 with Reference No: FME/PS/396/C1/1/134 and signed by the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, Obioma’s appointment is for an initial tenure of five years with effect from May 14, 2020.

In a statement signed by the NECO Head of Information and Public Relations Division, Azeez Sani, Obioma took over reins of the examination body from the former Acting Registrar, Mallam Abubakar Gana, on Friday, 22nd May 2020 at the Council’s headquarters in Minna.

The new NECO helmsman is a Professor of Education Measurement and Evaluation and was a one time  Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Educational Research and Development Council.
