Obasanjo absent at Tinubu’s first Council of State meeting

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday convened the first Council of State meeting of his administration.

The Council, which advises the President on major policy decisions, had former Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Goodluck Jonathan in attendance, with Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar participating virtually.

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, was notably absent from the meeting both physical and virtual.

The session comes just days after widespread protests against economic hardship and the removal of fuel subsidies.

A statement by the presidency lists membership of the Council of State to include, “the President, who is the Chairman; the Vice-President, who is the Deputy Chairman; all former Presidents of the Federation and all former Heads of the Government of the Federation.

“All former Chief Justices of Nigeria; President of the Senate; Speaker of the House of Representatives; all the Governors of the states of the Federation; the minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation.”
