A new Commissioner of Police for Oyo State, Mr. Nwachuckwu Enwonwu, has assumed office, in Ibadan.

The NAN reports that Enwonwu took over from Mr. Shina Olukolu, who was deployed to the Force Command Investigation Department (FCID) Lagos State.

Speaking shortly after taking over on Monday, Enwonwu urged officers and men of the command to maintain high level of discipline.

“I want you to extend the same cooperation you have shown him to me and try as much as possible to maintain the tempo.

“Once you do that you will be my friend but anything short of that will not be accommodated.

“As you go back to your various commands make sure you maintain high level of discipline because discipline is the bedrock of the Nigeria Police Force,” he said.

The new police boss admonished them to respect the fundamental Human Right of Nigerians as enshrined in the Constitution.

Enwonwu said that he did not want to receive petition from the public against the police over violation of their fundamental human rights.

He appreciated the Inspector General of Police (I-G), Muhammed Adamu for the opportunity given to him, saying the I-G has ordered him to continue to control crime and bring it to the barest minimum.

Enwonwu said that a safe society would bring development, investment, generate employment and improved the standard of living of the citizens.

Earlier, the outgoing police boss, appreciated the IGP Adamu for the opportunity given to him to serve.

“I want to enjoy you all to extend that hand of fellowship to the new CP and not take his simplicity for granted.

“Apart from the support from the police, I also enjoyed tremendous support from the State Government, traditional leaders, religious leaders, vigilance groups among others,” he said. (NAN)
