NSCDC busts oil thieves, arrests 20 in Rivers

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested no fewer than 20 suspected crude oil thieves  in Rivers State.

Two boats, two trucks, vehicles and pipes being used by the suspects to convey the stolen products to various parts of the state were also seized.

Rivers State Commandant of NSCDC, Muktar Lawal said, in Port Harcourt, that the security agency would not be deterred by Coronavirus pandemic from executing  its  mandate of protecting critical national assets and infrastructure.

Lawal said three suspects were nabbed at Alakiri creeks in Gokana Local Government Area of the state over vandalism of petroleum products. Two drums filled with suspected AGO and a boat were recovered from the suspects.

The NSCDC boss explained that operatives also recovered two boat engines, rubber and PVC pipes from five suspects arrested at Okrika community in Ahoada West Local Government Area.

He also disclosed that NSCDC operatives arrested a suspect and impounded a truck filled with suspected stolen petroleum product at the Yam Zone Town of the state.

Likewise, four suspects and a tug boat were nabbed at Okirika Local Government Area for illegal dealing in petroleum products by the Nigerian Army and handed over the corps.
