Northern elite plotting to stop Tinubu’s second term dreams’ – AYCF alleges

Strong accusations have been made by the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) against certain northern political elite, who they allege are plotting to keep President Bola Tinubu from running for reelection in 2027, Daily Post reports.

Daily Post said that in a statement released, on Tuesday, the Forum claimed that the current unrest and agitations in the North were a component of a bigger scheme to accomplish this objective by 2027.

The goal of this scheme, according to Yerima Shettima, President General of the AYCF, was to undermine the Tinubu administration by setting unachievable and unreasonable standards in an effort to sway public opinion against it.

Shettima went on to say that the goal of the vilification and destabilisation effort is to reduce President Tinubu’s base of support in the North, with Bello Mohammed Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, being the main target.

According to the AYCF, President Tinubu’s ongoing attacks on important friends were part of a larger plot to topple the administration and obstruct his chances of winning re-election in 2027 for a second term.

The AYCF conveyed its worries and believed that these acts were desperate attempts by those in positions of authority to obstruct the administration’s progress and undo its anti-corruption initiatives.

Shettima went on to add that, “The AYCF views these actions as a calculated attempt to dismantle the President’s support network and thwart his chances of securing a second term in office.”

The AYCF advised President Tinubu and his team to remain vigilant and determined in their dedication to the country’s advancement, warned against hasty decisions by the anti-Tinubu factions, and emphasised the need to avoid spreading false information and using shadowy organisations to undermine the President’s allies and tarnish his image. The forum also advised the president to be wary of the planned propaganda campaigns aimed at his administration and to stay focused on fulfilling his commitments to the Nigerian people.

It is imperative for the government to stay focused on its goals, remain resilient in the face of these challenges, and work towards ensuring a stable and prosperous future for Nigeria. The administration must anticipate and counteract these moves in order to safeguard the progress and development of the nation,” Daily Post quoted Shettima saying.
