The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) has pledged its total support and commitment to the Obudu International Airport project of the Governor Ben Ayade-led administration in Cross River State.
NIMET in a letter dated May 14th, 2019 and signed by its Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Sani Abubakar Mashi, expressed its delight that the governor secured approval for the construction of the airport from the Ministry of Aviation.
According to a statement issued in Calabar by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Christian Ita, NIMET in the said letter, also disclosed that it was part of the technical team that chose the location for the sitting of the airport.

Part of the NIMET letter quoted by Ita read thus: “Your Excellency sir, I am pleased to congratulate you for securing approval for the construction of an international airport in one of the nation’s heart beat (Obudu) in line with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Act and compliance with ICAO standard and recommended practices in the establishment of an airport.
“The technical team from the Ministry of Aviation (which NIMET was part of), visited and inspected three sites and found site one more suitable as it met standard and recommended practices to sitting an airport.
“Your Excellency, I wish to reiterate our unalloyed and total support and commitment to the success of this proposed project regarding the provision of meteorological services. Our agency will continue to support the efforts of the Cross River State Government under your able leadership in monitoring standards and recommended practices as required.”
